Frequently asked questions
- How much CPF is taken from my salary in Singapore?
- 20% from the employee, and 17% more from the employer, for employees aged 55 and below, according to the CPF Board. Both apply up to the S$8,000 Ordinary Wage ceiling and step down above 55, 60, 65 and 70.
- Is take-home pay the same as net pay after tax?
- No. Take-home pay is gross pay minus employee CPF, and IRAS assesses income tax separately once a year.
- Does the employer contribution come out of my pay?
- No. The employer pays it on top of gross pay, into the same CPF accounts.
- Do foreigners pay CPF?
- No. CPF applies only to Singapore citizens and permanent residents, so a foreigner's take-home pay is their gross pay.
- How is CPF calculated on a bonus?
- A bonus is an Additional Wage, with a yearly ceiling of S$102,000 minus the Ordinary Wages that attracted CPF that year. The same contribution rates apply.
