Frequently asked questions
- How much tax does an SRS contribution save?
- The contribution multiplied by your marginal tax rate. The saving per dollar falls as the relief moves income into a lower band.
- What is the cap on personal reliefs in Singapore?
- S$80,000 in total for each Year of Assessment, on top of each relief's own ceiling, according to IRAS. A contribution past the cap saves no tax.
- Is my bonus taxed in Singapore?
- Yes. IRAS taxes a bonus as employment income, at the same rates as salary. CPF on it stops at the Additional Wage ceiling of S$102,000 minus the salary that attracted CPF that year.
- Why does a second relief save less?
- The first relief lowers your income into a lower band. The next relief then saves tax at that lower rate.
- Is it worth topping up if I earn under S$40,000?
- Often not. The first taxed bands are 2% and 3.5%, so a relief saves little while the money stays locked.
- What tax reliefs can I claim in Singapore?
- Common reliefs include earned income relief, spouse relief, qualifying child relief, parent relief, CPF cash top-up relief, CPF cash top-up relief (family), SRS contribution relief, NSman relief and working mother's child relief. This calculator prices the ones you can still contribute to this year: CPF cash top-up relief, CPF cash top-up relief (family) and SRS contribution relief.
